NEW Ledge Road & Bud Cook Trails 05/07/22
May 7 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am$15.00
With trip Leaders: Becca Sher and Seth Cutright. Limit 15. Price: $15.
We will start at the base of the hill on Ledge Road. GPS coordinates, (43.596827, -88.628356) and walk our way to the west. After covering the Ledge Road area, we will car caravan 3/4 mile to the Bud Cook Hiking Area for grassland birds.
Ledge Road dead ends into the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge and has some great habitats. On the south side of the road is a forested wetland giving way to cattail marsh. The north side has some shrub-carr giving way to open marsh. Warblers, flycatcher and other passerines will be expected and marsh birds such as waterfowl, rails and bitterns will certainly be a possibility. The Bud Cook Hiking Area has probably the best grassland birding in the area. Bobolinks, clay-colored sparrows, and sedge wrens are target birds with the possibility of Henslows sparrow and meadowlarks.
