DESCRIPTION:Join the Horicon Marsh Bird Club for our upcoming meeting on September 17 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitors Center\, N7725 WI-28\, Horicon\, WI 53032. This month’s program will take us on a journey to the tropical forests and wetlands of Costa Rica\, as Jeff and Suzanne Bahls share highlights from their March 2026 adventure. They traveled with the Wisconsin Natural Resources Foundation and Holbrook Travel on the Rhythms of Nature tour.\n\nTheir itinerary included Tortuguero\, located along Costa Rica’s northern Caribbean coast; Sarapiquí\, a lush lowland region in north-central Costa Rica; La Fortuna Waterfall; and Arenal Volcano National Park. Each destination offered its own unique habitats and opportunities to experience Costa Rica’s incredible diversity of birds and wildlife.\n\nDuring the trip\, Jeff and Suzanne recorded an impressive 127 species of birds\, along with 12 sloths\, including both two-toed and three-toed sloths. They also encountered several other mammals\, including three species of bats.\nCome join us as Jeff and Suzanne share their photographs\, stories\, and favorite memories from this unforgettable adventure. SUMMARY:Whooping Cranes in the Eastern Migratory Population
DESCRIPTION:Join the Horicon Marsh Bird Club on Thursday\, October 15\, at 6:30pm for an informative presentation\, “Whooping Cranes in the Eastern Migratory Population\,” featuring Alicia M. Ward\, Outreach Biologist with the International Crane Foundation.\n\nAlicia will explore the history of the Eastern Migratory Population of Whooping Cranes\, an endangered species reintroduced to the eastern United States. Her presentation will cover the historic and ongoing threats these magnificent birds face\, the efforts to reintroduce them into the wild\, and the conservation work being done to protect their future. She will also share updates on the 2025 release cohort and highlight why the recovery of Whooping Cranes is a story of creativity\, perseverance\, and dedication.\nAlicia is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin\, where she studied zoology and anthropology. She began her career with the International Crane Foundation in 2023 as a Crane Conservation Fellow and now serves as an Outreach Biologist.
