Dan Erickson – Eyes on the Sky: 70+ Years of Raptor Research at Cedar Grove
Join us at 6:30pm for the January meeting of the Horicon Marsh Bird Club. Dan Erickson will be speaking on the 70+ Years of Raptor Research at Cedar Grove. The meeting is open to the public and is held at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center located at N7725 Highway 28, Horicon, WI. Please use the south auditorium entrance.
This presentation will cover a brief overview of the station’s history, Wisconsin raptor identification and banding, as well as discuss active research projects and collaborations.
Danny is a birder from Wauwatosa, Wisconsin where his life-long interest in nature and biology led him to study wildlife ecology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Since then, he has been fortunate to learn from many skilled raptor researchers at HawkWatch International, The Peregrine Fund, Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory, and Mackinac Straits Raptor Watch honing his raptor banding abilities. Since 2021, Danny oversees the raptor count and banding operations each fall at Cedar Grove Ornithological Research Station continuing its mission monitoring long-term avian migration trends in the western Great Lakes. He is currently is a first-year graduate student at UW-Green Bay studying disease in migrating hawks.
